Research has shown that everybody experiences some tooth decay. Once the decay has occurred it is important to remove the decay, clean the tooth and repair the tooth with some type of restoration. Various restorations that can be used are:- 

Composite Fillings: - Composite filling are an excellent alternative, limiting the removal of healthy tooth structure. A composite filling is a tooth coloured quartz-like material. After the decay is removed and cleaned. The composite resin is placed layer by layer into the cavity. Each layer is hardened with high intensity LED light and the final surfaces is shaped and polished. The final restoration is virtually invisible.

SAY NO TO SILVER FILLING

(Silver filling contains mercury which is a highly toxic material that can cause neurological and kidney diseases)

Several factors influencing the performance, durability, longevity of dental restorations are:

  • The components used in the filling material
  • The amount of tooth structure remaining
  • Where and how the filling is placed
  • The chewing load that the tooth will have to bear

 

Other materials used are:-

  • Glass ionomer cements (are not permanent solutions)

 

Advantages of composite filling over other materials are:- 

  • Environmentally non-toxic (no mercury)
  • Stronger  as they bond directly to the tooth surface
  • No fracture because they don’t require  removal healthy tooth structure
